Firstly, thank you, to all who have subscribed and/or shared this letter! It really means a lot that people care about what I think and do, not in an internet famous kind of way though....
If you didn’t already know, you will in the coming weeks and months, I am a huge proponent for remote work. I love all the wonderful and not so wonderful things about it. The great things bring so many positives, that affect more than just the workers. The negative things bring innovation for people and companies to come up with thoughtful solutions. I bring this up because I want to start a bit of conversation.
I want to know how do you work from home? Not only the literal how, sure, tell me that, but do you thrive at it or is it a challenge? If it is a challenge, why?
For me, remote work is nothing but good. First off, having a steadily introverted side, I do well working in isolation. The open office setup that my day job pushes, does not work well for me. I feel distracted and constantly watched. I work well with routine and structure. Specifically with asynchronous communication. Working uninterrupted, with my music blasting, not worrying about someone walking by or calling me into a “one off” meeting keeps me in flow. Not only can I get more work done, but I don’t feel compelled to be in front of my computer “doing” work all day. The idea of a 9-5, working a set amount of hours is bullshit. The whole structure around it is infuriating. I am getting red just typing about it. Work, regardless if you are a creative, developer, manager, support rep or an assistant, is done in small bursts. Generally around 20 - 40 minutes, but can last as long as 90. I am not going to get into the science, though I have read about it a bit. Nor will I go into too much detail here, just to belabor the points above. There are plenty of points, other than just the quality, time and speed of work. Just to rattle off a few, remote work positively impacts wages, real estate, transportation, urbanization, the environment in a plethora of ways, and job equality. I will touch on these more in the future, so look out for that.
So back to the question, how do you work from home? Is this new to you? How do you feel? What does your setup look like?
This is mine:
And this too:
And this is my setup right now:
One of my favorite things about working at home is that I can work from different places, depending on the work I am trying to accomplish. When editing video, you can find me on my iMac. When doing admin work for my day job, you can find me on my MacBook. And when writing, drawing or planning, I am generally on my iPad.
In relation to different devices for different tasks, would you be interested in a segment in the letter about my experiences with the iPad Pro 2020 + Magic keyboard? If it is a viable computer for a full stack creative?

Lastly, I finished my 2020 Film Reel! Well I think, I keep going back and forth. I will 100% share it on here next post.
Until then, if you like what you have read, please share with anyone that you think will enjoy this letter.
