A Clearer Perspective
Leaving a toxic environment really changes one’s mental health, and fast!
Leaving a toxic environment really changes one’s mental health, and fast!
I had to say it right from the start of this letter because it really does. As you all know, I left my day job earlier this month. This has been my best decision in a long time. Not only do I have just an overall feeling of relief, but I am acting more like myself again, or so my wife says.
So, what have I been doing in the past almost three weeks?
Taking it slow
Gathering thoughts
Editing, a lot of editing!
I started my current project back in February. It took months to organize and interview over twenty people. The experience was exhausting and enlightening. While working at my day job I just couldn't focus on this project and that sucked! See, this project is funded by Adobe. I am part of the February cohort for their Adobe Creative Residency Fund. Technically these projects are supposed to take one month. Due to the complexity of the project – the moving parts and my focus being on my day job, I have had to delay editing. Since quitting I have worked on it a lot, but still not enough. I need to make a bigger dent faster. I am really annoyed that this project has taken five months. Sure, five months is nothing considering the breadth of the project, but if it were done right now, I'd be ok with it. But instead – it is just coming together. To add insult to injury, I basically wasted a week due to my intention to use FCPX instead of Premiere, only to move back to Premiere. Tools are frustrating and flawed and I was trying to find one that worked best. I failed. I also needed to spend more intimate time with the footage to find more stories out of the interviews. Overall, I did achieve that and things are looking great!
So, I am making this edition short so I can focus this time on editing my ass off. I do have a question for you all though. What kind of content do you want to see from this letter? Now that I have the time to focus on it I want to make sure I am making your time reading this worth it. Please use the form below to let me know, it will only take a minute.
